The problem with generic grabbers

Getting a dependable copy of an Xtapes video is harder than it looks. General-purpose download utilities often fail to notice media on Xtapes pages at all, because they don't understand how the site is put together or how it delivers video. What you get instead is failed downloads, missing files or awkward workarounds.

Xtapes Video Downloader runs inside your browser and pays attention to Xtapes-hosted content only. When you open a supported page it finds the available video sources and lays them out in a small, uncluttered popup. You choose a quality and the extension handles the rest, without outside software, confusing settings or guesswork.

Hosts it understands

Coverage is limited to certain Xtapes domains: xtapes.la plus a set of related hosts. Some Xtapes subdomains may fall outside that set. An unsupported-host error means you are on one of them; loading that video through xtapes.la, or another subdomain the extension recognizes, usually gets past it. Videos sent as protected streams cannot be saved on any host.

Choosing a quality

When a page offers more than one stream, the popup lists them so you can trade file size against resolution in whichever direction suits you. File size varies with both the quality you pick and the length of the source video. Every option downloads as a standard MP4, which plays on most devices and modern media players.

What the extension brings

• Automatic detection of video sources once a supported Xtapes page is open
• Quality choices whenever several streams exist
• Downloads handled by the browser itself, with no external tools
• Builds for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox that need no extra configuration
• A minimal popup that stays out of your way while browsing
• MP4 output for every download

Saving a video from Xtapes

1. Get the extension from the GitHub Releases page, choosing the build for your browser, and install it.
2. Open a supported Xtapes video page.
3. Click the extension's toolbar icon, or use the on-page controls, to open the popup.
4. Allow it a moment to detect the media on the page. If nothing turns up, start the video; some pages only reveal their sources once playback or buffering begins.
5. Look over the detected formats and choose a quality.
6. Click download and wait for the transfer to complete.
7. The MP4 appears in your browser's downloads folder; open it in a media player to check it. A player that cannot open it may simply lack MP4 support, which is rare in current software but possible in older versions.

Account, connection and limits

An email sign-in is needed, with a one-time password sent to your inbox for secure access. Downloads also require an internet connection; when a transfer dies partway, check the connection and retry. A transfer that fails every time points to a protected video, or to one streamed in a form the extension has no way to process. If the popup itself refuses to open, refresh the page; a fresh install of the newest release is the fallback.

Xtapes hosts adult content from many producers and studios. Keep to material you own, or that its owner has plainly allowed you to store.

FAQ

Can I run the Xtapes add-on in Brave or Edge, or is it Chrome-only?

Not Chrome-only. The current build targets are Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox.

Will it save videos from any page on Xtapes?

Only supported Xtapes domains, which means xtapes.la and a group of related hosts. A video delivered as a protected stream can't be saved even there.

What does Xtapes Video Downloader need from me before the first save?

An email sign-in. A one-time password is emailed to you so you can get in securely.

How large will a downloaded Xtapes file be?

That depends on the quality you choose and how long the video is. Higher resolutions and longer videos produce bigger MP4 files.

Xtapes says the host isn't supported. What can I do?

Open the same video through xtapes.la or another subdomain the extension covers, then try the download again.
