No save button on XFreeHD

XFreeHD has a big catalogue but nothing on the page that lets you keep a video. The fallback options are poor: record your screen, or hope the page is still there next time you want to watch. Neither works well.

Xfreehd Video Downloader adds a small download workflow to your browser instead. Once installed, it notices the media playing on an XFreeHD video page and lets you store it as an MP4, usually within seconds. It is designed for how video pages are laid out right now on the site's beta host.

What happens on the page

Everything runs inside the browser tab you are already watching in. The extension waits for the XFreeHD player to start, picks up the media stream it loads, and shows what it found in a clean popup where you choose the resolution. There is no desktop program to install and no website to paste links into, and the only output it produces is an MP4 file on your own device. That file plays in common media players, moves easily between devices and archives well.

Which XFreeHD addresses are covered

  • Video pages on the beta host whose address follows the /video/<segment>/<segment> pattern
  • Pages served from the beta.xfreehd.com host as well as from lb.xfreehd.com
  • Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox; further Chromium browsers might work too, but they aren't the focus

A message saying the page isn't supported means the address falls outside that route or those hosts, so check the URL in the address bar before trying again.

Saving a clip

  1. Pick the GitHub release build for your browser and install Xfreehd Video Downloader from it.
  2. Go to a video on XFreeHD's beta host.
  3. Press play. Detection only switches on once a stream is running, so opening the popup earlier finds nothing.
  4. Click the toolbar icon or use the on-page controls to bring up the popup.
  5. When the source shows up, choose a resolution. A grayed-out download button just means scanning is still going on; give it a few seconds or refresh.
  6. Click download, then let the MP4 conversion complete.
  7. Choose where on your device the file goes and confirm.

Limits and requirements

Only one download runs at a time, and each one needs an internet connection. Refreshing the tab mid-download cancels it, after which you restart playback and begin again. A file that refuses to play has usually not finished: an interrupted download or a source stream that dropped out can leave it corrupted.

The extension is lightweight, asks for only a minimal set of permissions and needs no external software. There is no separate account to register; signing in uses an email address confirmed with a one-time password. XFreeHD hosts video across many categories, so stick to videos that belong to you or that you have clear permission to store.

FAQ

Is this downloader made or approved by the people who run XFreeHD?

No. It is an independent extension made by SERP Apps, with no affiliation to XFreeHD and no endorsement from it.

Will XFreeHD saves work in a Chromium-based browser that isn't on the main list?

The supported builds are for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox. Other browsers built on Chromium may work as well, but they are not the main targets.

Can several XFreeHD videos download side by side?

No. One download runs at a time, so wait for the current file to finish before starting the next.

What happens if I reload the XFreeHD tab while a file is still downloading?

The download stops. Start playback again and run the whole download from the beginning.

Is there an account to set up before the first XFreeHD save?

There is no separate registration step. You sign in with your email address and confirm it with a one-time password.

Where did the extension's toolbar icon go?

Open the browser's extensions page and make sure Xfreehd Video Downloader is still switched on. If it is, pin its icon to the toolbar by hand.
