Teachable Video Downloader

Keep MP4 copies of the Teachable lectures you're enrolled in, named by section and lecture, so a removed lesson or closed school doesn't take them with it.

When Course Access Isn't Permanent

On Teachable, the person who built the course stays in charge of it. Lessons can be taken down, a course can be reorganised, or a whole school can close, and the videos you enrolled for go with it. Teachable Video Downloader saves those lecture videos to your own computer, so a migrated or closed school, or an enrolment window or subscription period that has ended, doesn't cut you off from material you studied. Local files also play without a streaming connection.

What It Handles

Any Teachable-powered school works, whatever its custom domain or branding, because the scanner looks for Teachable's underlying structure rather than a particular theme. On each lecture page it finds the video player, including Wistia embeds (the host Teachable courses use most), native Teachable video and other embedded players.

Videos are saved as MP4 at their original resolution and audio quality, without re-encoding. Each file name carries the section and lecture order, so a folder of downloads reads like the course outline. A batch queue lets you line up lectures or entire sections and have them fetched one after another, and a progress indicator shows speed and estimated time to completion. If the connection drops, the download retries automatically and resumes from where it stopped.

Working Through a Course

  1. Add and activate. Install the extension in your browser and complete activation.
  2. Sign in to the school. Log into the Teachable school and open a course you're enrolled in.
  3. Build the queue. Visit lecture pages and add their videos, either lesson by lesson or a whole section at once.
  4. Let it run. Each video is downloaded in order as an MP4 named after its section and lecture, with speed and completion estimates on screen.

Not sure a site runs on Teachable? A "Powered by Teachable" note in the footer or a teachable.com subdomain in the address are giveaways. Plenty of creators use their own domain, which the extension handles too.

Supported regions: Worldwide. Output quality can only match what the course creator uploaded, and automatic retries still need the connection to come back eventually.

Privacy and Permissions

Processing happens locally in your browser. Your login credentials aren't stored and no data is sent anywhere else. The extension works inside your existing browser session, only touches video addresses the page already loads, and doesn't create unusual traffic or leave a trace the course creator could spot.

  • downloads: writes each MP4 to disk and runs the queue of pending downloads.
  • activeTab: finds the video player on the Teachable lecture page you're viewing.
  • storage: keeps download progress, queue state and activation details on your machine.
  • scripting: reads the lecture page's data to locate video sources and build the download requests.

FAQ

How can I tell whether a course site is built on Teachable?

Check the footer for "Powered by Teachable" or see whether the address uses a teachable.com subdomain. Many schools sit on custom domains, but the extension recognises Teachable's underlying structure either way.

My course videos are hosted on Wistia. Will they download?

Yes. Wistia is the video host Teachable courses use most often, and its embeds are picked up automatically with no manual steps.

Is it possible to save a full course?

Yes, by going through the lectures and adding each video to the queue. They're processed in order and named with the section and lecture titles so the files mirror the course layout.

Does it also grab PDFs and other course files?

No, it's for video only. Courses that include PDF files usually provide their own download buttons on the lesson page.

Can the instructor tell that I've saved lectures?

It runs inside your normal browser session and only uses video addresses the page has already loaded, so it doesn't produce unusual traffic or leave a detectable footprint.

Is there a version for Safari or my phone?

No. Safari, Opera and mobile browsers aren't supported. It runs in Chrome, Firefox and Edge on desktop Windows, macOS and Linux.
