RedGifs Video Downloader
Put a download button on every RedGifs clip, in feeds and embeds too, and save the best available version as an MP4 without converter sites.

Why RedGifs needs help
Right-click a RedGifs clip and there is no useful save option. RedGifs Video Downloader adds a download button to each video instead. Click it, choose a quality and the clip is stored on your computer as a normal MP4, with no shady download sites, no pasting links into converters and no desktop software to install. It works on single clips, on whole feed pages and on RedGifs players embedded elsewhere on the web, and copes with short loops as well as longer videos. By default the highest quality available is picked for you.
Under the hood
RedGifs often makes its real formats available through its API rather than the page markup, so the extension queries RedGifs API v2 directly, authenticating with a short-lived bearer token, which makes format detection dependable. It also reads HTML5 video tags and og:video metadata and watches requests made by the page, then merges what it learns into a single quality list, ordered so the best source is obvious.
If the API exposes a direct MP4, that file is saved straight away. When an HLS stream is the better option, it is converted to MP4 locally in the browser. GIF-style posts are served as video sources on RedGifs, so they are covered by the same process.
Ways to use it
- Watch page: the in-page button sits on the player container; open it and pick a quality.
- Feed and search pages: every visible clip is detected, so you can save several without opening each one. A side panel lists the clips found on busier pages.
- Embeds: supported embedded and iframe RedGifs players get the same control.
- Right-click: a "Download RedGifs Video" entry works on supported page and video contexts.
An in-page download manager shows progress, speed, active jobs and completion, and every file is filed automatically in a RedGifs folder.
Getting started
- Add RedGifs Video Downloader to your browser and complete the secure email OTP verification.
- Open a RedGifs watch page, a feed or a supported embed and let the extension pick up the visible media.
- Use the player button for one clip, or the side panel to look over everything detected on a feed.
- Choose a quality tier and the MP4 is saved in your RedGifs downloads folder.
Platform support and limits
It runs in the desktop versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Whale and Yandex, on Windows, macOS or Linux, and can be used worldwide.
- Safari and mobile browsers are outside its support.
- The qualities offered depend on what the RedGifs API or the page source exposes for each clip.
- Feed saving only covers clips that are visible or detectable on the current page; bulk exports beyond that are not offered.
- Content you cannot already access is out of reach, and site restrictions or account controls are never bypassed. Saving something requires that you are already entitled to view and download it.
- An internet connection is required for API lookups and for activation, and the email OTP sign-in must be completed first.
Detection, extraction and conversion all happen locally; nothing is uploaded.

FAQ
Single clip on a watch page: how does saving go?
On a watch page or a supported feed item, use the download button in the page or the extension's interface, pick a quality, and the clip is saved as MP4.
Are GIF-style posts supported?
Yes. RedGifs serves them as video, so the extension keeps the MP4 where one exists or converts the HLS stream to MP4 when needed.
Can several clips be saved from a feed or search page?
Yes. Visible items on supported feed and search layouts are detected and listed in the side panel, letting you download multiple clips without leaving the page.
How is the best quality chosen?
The extension gathers every variant it can find through the API and the page source and lists them from best to worst. What appears depends on what RedGifs offers for that clip.
Do I ever get anything other than MP4?
No. Direct MP4 sources are written as they are, and HLS sources are converted to MP4 locally.
Which directory are RedGifs videos saved to?
Into a RedGifs subfolder, made automatically under the Downloads directory your browser uses by default.
How does connecting to RedGifs servers help it find clip formats?
Detecting RedGifs formats often relies on API v2 replies obtained with a temporary bearer token. With that access the extension reads the clip's actual formats instead of guessing from incomplete markup.
Will it run in Whale or Yandex?
Yes, both have desktop builds, as do Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and Opera, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Neither Safari nor any mobile browser is supported.
Are my clips sent anywhere?
No. Detecting, extracting and converting all run in your browser, and media files do not go to outside servers.
