The silent-video problem

Download a Reddit video with an ordinary tool and you often end up with no sound. Reddit stores the picture and the audio as separate DASH streams, and most downloaders grab only one of the two. Reddit Downloader fetches both and merges them into a single MP4 with the audio in place, so the file plays the way it did on the site. More than video

• Galleries: every slide of a multi-image post is extracted as its own file, not just the first image.

Some practical limits: merging the DASH streams can take a moment on longer clips, batch jobs depend on posts loading as the subreddit page scrolls, and a thread export reflects the moment you export it, so later edits or deletions are not picked up. Private community content is only available to approved members.

Permissions

• downloads: writes the saved posts, their media and any thread exports to disk, and drives the batch queue.
• activeTab: spots what can be downloaded on the subreddit or thread currently in view.
• storage: remembers your export settings, past queues, the data used to catch duplicates, and your activation, from one session to the next.
• notifications: tells you when a thread export has finished or when something in the queue needs a look.
• scripting: inspects Reddit's page data and its DASH manifests so the video, audio, images and comments can be pulled out.
• host_permissions: confined to reddit.com plus the i.redd.it and v.redd.it hosts and related CDN domains that detection and downloading rely on.

Why do Reddit videos from this tool have sound?

Is there a Safari or phone version?

Not at the moment. Use it in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave or Opera on a Windows, macOS or Linux computer instead.

What kinds of Reddit content can I save?

Clips, pictures, GIFs, galleries, posts and their discussions, provided they are public or visible to you because you're logged in.

Do galleries come through complete?

Every slide does. Each picture in the post becomes its own file, so you never end up with only the first one.

Is comment metadata included when exporting a thread?

It is. Besides the comment text, the JSON holds who wrote each reply, when, its score and where it sits in the reply tree.

Can I save from a private subreddit I'm in?

If your account can open it, so can the extension, because it works through your logged-in session. Membership is still required; restrictions are never circumvented.

Is bulk saving from a subreddit possible?

Yes. Add posts from a subreddit page to the queue and let them run as a batch; each lands in a folder for its subreddit and post.

How is everything laid out on disk?

Top level by subreddit, then one folder per post holding that post's media, metadata and comment export together.

Is my archiving activity recorded somewhere?

No. Your saved threads and files never leave your computer, and there is no log of what you archive.
