Porndoe's watch pages, briefly

Each Porndoe video lives at an address of the form /watch/<token>, ending in a token that identifies the video. Porndoe Video Downloader is written for exactly those pages and stays inactive on the rest of the site; homepage sections, category views and search results are out of scope.

The video on a watch page isn't really in the page. Porndoe hands playback to an embedded iframe, so what you see is a shell around a nested player, and right-click saving or simple download tricks come back empty.

How it gets the stream

While the page loads, the extension keeps an eye on the iframe player as it initialises. Once the player starts requesting media, the extension notes the source: either an M3U8 playlist (HLS) or a direct MP4 file. You don't have to dig for hidden media addresses yourself; the results are waiting in a short list when you open the popup from the toolbar.

Whatever the source, the saved file is MP4, the most broadly supported video format, so it plays on a phone, laptop or smart TV without codec packs or a special player.

Walkthrough

• Install: get the build for your browser from the project's releases page and add it through the browser's usual extension process.
• Open and play: load a Porndoe video with a /watch/<token> address, wait for the page to finish, and press play. Starting playback is what sets off detection.
• Pick: click the toolbar icon and give it a moment to identify the streams. Each one appears in the popup with its quality and a download button.
• Save: click the button next to the option you want, then choose a folder when the browser asks where the MP4 should go. The browser's own download engine does the writing.

Privacy and footprint

All processing happens on your own computer. The extension doesn't report back to anyone or pass your download history to third parties, and it needs no standalone application or copy-paste between tools. It only wakes up on watch pages it recognises.

To use it you sign in with your email and a one-time code; Porndoe itself doesn't need an account, and there's no separate registration.

Limitations

• DRM, or a comparable form of protection, can stop a video from being saved, and some videos use a player setup the extension doesn't detect.
• An internet connection has to stay live while the file downloads.
• Porndoe can change its player at any time, which may affect the extension for a while.
• An empty popup usually means the video hasn't started yet, so the player hasn't initialised. A file that won't play is worth downloading again after a refresh; if that keeps happening, the stream at the source has probably expired or become corrupted.
• If clicking download does nothing, your browser may require you to allow extensions to save files, or your disk may be out of space.

Only download videos you have the right to keep.

Which parts of Porndoe can it download from?

Only video pages whose address follows /watch/<token>. Category listings, search results and the homepage aren't handled.

Will I have to make a Porndoe account?

No. The extension's own sign-in is all you need: enter your email and the one-time password code it sends, with no separate registration.

What kinds of video sources does it handle, and what do I get?

Is what I download kept private?
