Motherless content is curated by its users, and a moderation decision can remove a video without notice. Motherless Downloader gives you an offline MP4 of the clips you want to hold on to, with no standalone desktop program involved; everything happens in the browser.

Once the extension is installed and your email is confirmed with a one-time passcode (OTP), open a video on Motherless.com and start it playing. Playback matters: the stream has to be running before any format options can show up. From there, any of these starts a download:

• the download button placed inside the Motherless player itself
• the popup behind the toolbar icon
• a "Download Motherless Video" item in the right-click menu, available on the page and on video elements

Pick a resolution and the file is written to Downloads/Motherless, with no save-as prompt for each one. A download manager shows progress, speed and completion for every active file, and a notification tells you when a long background job ends or fails.

How Sources Are Found and Converted

Since it targets only this site, the extension knows Motherless's own extraction paths and catches sources that all-purpose stream grabbers often miss. It reads the flashvars mediaDefinitions data, HTML5 video tags and patterns in page scripts, and it also watches requests through an injected monitoring script.

Direct MP4 files are fetched as they are. HLS streams are converted to MP4 inside the browser by an offscreen document and the built-in conversion pipeline, so the output is always an MP4. In the quality picker, resolutions are ordered best first and MP4 variants sit above HLS ones.

Supported sources, in short: Motherless.com video pages and subdomains, direct MP4s the page exposes, and HLS streams that can be turned into MP4.

Browsers, systems and limits

Desktop builds of Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Firefox, Whale and Yandex work on Windows, macOS and Linux. Safari and mobile browsers are not covered. Region: Worldwide.

• Live stream capture is not available; on-demand pages only.

FAQ

What are the steps to keep one Motherless upload?

Play the video on Motherless.com, then use the in-player button, the extension popup or the right-click option "Download Motherless Video". Choose a resolution and the MP4 is saved into your Motherless downloads folder.

Where does the quality list come from?

The extension gathers every variant it can spot in flashvars, HTML5 tags, scripts and page requests. It sorts them highest first, and if both MP4 and HLS turn up, the direct MP4 choices lead.

Will an HLS source still end up as MP4?

Yes. Every file is a standard MP4. Direct MP4s transfer right away, while HLS segments are stitched and transmuxed into MP4 in the browser before the save is finalized.

Where on disk do the MP4s end up?

A Motherless subfolder created within the browser's Downloads directory.

Do Firefox, Chrome and Edge all work?

They do, along with Brave, Opera, Whale and Yandex on desktop systems.

What about Motherless streams that are happening live?

Live capture is out of scope; the tool is designed for on-demand pages and streams that can become MP4 files.

Nothing is detected on a video page. What should I try?

Make sure the video is playing, then reopen the popup or press the player button again. If that fails, reload the page and repeat. A source that is DRM-locked or no longer available can't be saved.

What is the full permission set used for?

Together they allow page scanning for media, the in-player controls, HLS-to-MP4 conversion, and saving files to disk while progress is tracked. Beyond those listed above, the set includes contextMenus and offscreen.

Is my Motherless media ever sent off my computer?

No. Media processing stays inside your browser, sign-in is handled by email OTP, and video files are never sent to external servers for processing.
