HDZog Video Downloader
HDZog offers no way to keep a video, so this extension puts a save button on the player and writes each MP4 into a Downloads/HDZog folder.

What lands on your drive
Every save ends up as a standard MP4 that common desktop and mobile media players open, written automatically into Downloads/HDZog inside your browser's default Downloads directory, with no repeated Save As prompts. HDZog itself has no download control, and general online downloaders usually fail on the site or return poor results, so HDZog Video Downloader fills that gap from inside the browser, with no desktop software or command-line tools involved.
Where a video exists both as MP4 and as HLS, the MP4 variant is preferred and stored as it is. Where there's only HLS, the segments are stitched and transmuxed into MP4 in the browser's offscreen context before the file is handed to the built-in download manager. Resolutions are listed by height, so you can take the highest or pick a smaller file.
Where it looks for sources
The extension's detection is tuned for HDZog and can catch source variants that general-purpose downloaders miss. It checks:
- the media list in the player's embedded settings
- HTML5 video tags and their sources
- sources the player injects after loading
- HLS patterns
- requests going to trusted CDNs
Detection only starts once playback does, so press play first. The qualities on offer are whatever the current HDZog player exposes.
Saving from the player
On HDZog.com and its subdomains, start the video and a download control appears inside the player. The toolbar icon opens the same quality selector, and so does the right-click entry "Download HDZog Video", which spares you reopening the popup. Choose a resolution, let any HLS conversion finish, and the download manager takes it from there, showing live progress and speed, a cancel control and an alert on completion. The extension's panels use a dark interface with sky blue accents so they sit quietly on HDZog pages.
Before the first save, activate the extension with an email sign-in; a one-time password (OTP) verifies the address.
Browsers and systems
Desktop builds exist for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Whale and Yandex, plus other desktop browsers that provide the extension APIs it needs, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Safari and mobile browsers aren't supported. Region: Worldwide.
Ground rules and limits
- Downloads go page by page; bulk library exports aren't part of the design, so let a large HLS conversion finish before starting another.
- A long HLS download needs its original HDZog tab to stay open until processing ends.
- DRM-protected streams and live streams can't be saved.
- You need permission to download the content already; paywalls, paid content you can't access and other restrictions aren't bypassed.
- Processing is local: nothing is uploaded to outside servers, there's no tracking, and only what the extension needs to run is stored on your device.
Why each permission is requested
downloads: puts the completed MP4 on your computer and feeds the download manager its progress, speed and completion state.storage: remembers OTP activation, your preferences and any download in progress, on your device, from one session to the next.activeTab: injects the player button, the popup logic and the detection scripts into the HDZog page you're watching.tabs: notices when you switch tabs, open another video or reload playback, and refreshes the stream list to match.scripting: inspects player metadata, the player's embedded settings, injected sources and trusted CDN entries before the quality list is shown.notifications: sends completion and error notices, so the popup doesn't have to stay open through long conversions.
FAQ
Which buttons do I press to save from HDZog.com?
Once the video is playing on HDZog.com, open the quality list from the player overlay, the toolbar icon or the "Download HDZog Video" menu item. Pick a quality and the MP4 is written as soon as the stream is processed.
Will I always get the top resolution?
You get to choose. The extension collects every quality HDZog exposes, via the player's embedded settings, HTML5 sources, the player and trusted CDN requests, and ranks them by resolution, so you can go for the sharpest version or a lighter file.
Is HLS footage saved in a different format?
No, the result is always MP4. A direct MP4 is stored untouched, while an HLS stream has its segments joined and transmuxed to MP4 inside the browser before the download starts.
After saving, how do I find the file on disk?
Look in the HDZog subfolder the extension creates in your browser's default Downloads directory. Every save goes there, so your archive stays organised by itself.
Is Chrome the only option, or do Firefox, Brave and Edge work?
All of them work. Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Firefox, Whale and Yandex are covered, as are other desktop browsers that provide the extension APIs it depends on.
Is it suited to grabbing an entire HDZog library?
Not really. It's meant for saving the page you're on, not exporting in bulk. Let one large HLS conversion complete before you kick off the next.
Nothing shows up when I open the extension. Why?
Usually the stream hasn't started yet, so press play and try the popup or right-click again. If that fails, refresh or reopen the tab with the player. Content behind DRM, or otherwise unsupported, won't be detected.
Why does the install mention contextMenus and offscreen?
Alongside downloads, activeTab, scripting and tabs, those permissions let it locate the active stream, add the player overlay and the right-click entry, convert HLS into MP4, keep the download manager current and save the result to your disk.
Who can see what I download?
Nobody outside your browser. Processing runs locally with no uploads to external servers, activation works through a secure email OTP, and the extension keeps only what it needs to function on your device.
