Deviantart Downloader
Get the file each artist actually uploaded to DeviantArt, not the squeezed gallery preview, one deviation at a time or a whole folder in a batch.
Thumbnails are not the artwork
The images in a DeviantArt gallery grid are compressed previews. Getting at the real full-size piece normally takes several clicks and some menu hunting per deviation, which is why gathering references or archiving your own work by hand can eat up days.
Deviantart Downloader asks DeviantArt's servers for the full-resolution image address and saves the artist's original upload instead of the shrunken listing version. It handles PNG, JPG and GIF, keeping whichever of those the artist used. All of the work happens inside your browser; nothing is sent to an outside service.
Picking a scope
Open any deviation, gallery folder or profile and the extension notices it is on DeviantArt without being told. From there you can grab:
- a single deviation, whether digital painting, illustration, photography or a scan of traditional media;
- a whole gallery folder, which is enumerated and queued in one go;
- someone's favourites collection;
- the public folders of a group gallery, which behave just like a member's gallery.
Before starting, choose how folders are laid out and how files are named. Hit download and each piece is written to disk at upload quality, with artist name, title and description saved alongside it. The queue copes with hundreds of deviations, retries on its own when the network drops, and skips anything the duplicate check finds already in your collection. Without custom settings, files are grouped by artist and gallery folder.
Where it runs
- Browsers: Opera, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome
- Operating systems: Windows 10/11, macOS 11+, and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora)
- Interface: the current DeviantArt Eclipse UI, on deviation pages as well as gallery views

Permissions
activeTab: lets it read the deviation or gallery listing open in your current tab and pull out the image addresses.downloads: writes the artwork into your local downloads directory.storage: holds the queue, the duplicate records and your folder settings inside the browser.
Out of reach
- Deviations hidden behind login restrictions; only publicly visible ones are saved.
- Literature and journal text. Pictures embedded in those posts are still collected.
- Premium material behind a paywall, Core membership locks and deviations whose download is restricted; none of these can be bypassed.
- Flash-based deviations, and anything inside the DeviantArt mobile app.
- Animation in any form other than an ordinary GIF.
- Very large gallery batches can hit DeviantArt's rate limiting, and a redesign of the Eclipse interface may break things for a while until an update is released.
FAQ
Is the newer Eclipse layout of DeviantArt a problem?
No. It works fine with the current Eclipse UI and finds images correctly on single deviation pages as well as in gallery views.
Do DeviantArt group galleries work too?
Yes. Folders in a group's gallery are handled the same way as a member's own gallery, so open the group and queue up whichever public folder you want.
Am I getting the real DeviantArt upload or a shrunken copy?
The real one. The extension looks up the full-resolution image address on DeviantArt's servers and saves the artist's original file, not the reduced version shown in gallery listings.
What happens with DeviantArt literature or journal posts?
Image deviations are the focus. The written text of literature and journal posts is skipped, while pictures placed inside them are kept.
Is batch-saving a complete DeviantArt gallery supported?
Yes. Open any user's gallery page and every deviation in it is listed and queued for batch download, with folders organised automatically.
